1:1 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of
the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of
the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of ADONAI; and in his law
he meditates day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that
brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he does shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff
which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor
sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For ADONAI knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the
ungodly shall perish.
2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain
thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take
counsel together, against ADONAI, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from
us.
4 He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: ADONAI shall have them
in derision.
5 Then shall he speak to them in his wrath, and vex them in his
sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king on my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: ADONAI has said to me, You are
my son; this day have I begotten you.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give you the heathen for
your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for
your
possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them in
pieces like a potter’s vessel.
10 Be wise now therefore, O you kings: be instructed, you judges
of the earth.
11 Serve ADONAI with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and you perish from the
way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all
they that put their trust in him.
1 A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his
son. ADONAI, how are they increased that trouble me! many are
they that rise up against me.
2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no
help for him in God. Selah.
3 But you, ADONAI, are a shield for me; my glory, and the
lifter up of my head.
4 I cried to ADONAI with my voice, and he heard me out of
his holy hill. Selah.
5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for ADONAI sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves
against me round about.
7 Arise, ADONAI; save me, O my God: for you have smitten all my
enemies on the cheek bone; you have broken the teeth of the
ungodly.
8 Salvation belongs to ADONAI: your blessing is
on your people. Selah.
1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of
David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: you have enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy
on me,
and hear my prayer.
2 O you sons of men, how long will you turn my glory into
shame? how long will you love vanity, and seek after
leasing? Selah.
3 But know that ADONAI hath set apart him that is godly for
himself: ADONAI will hear when I call to him.
4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your
bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in ADONAI.
6 There are many that say, Who will show us any
good? ADONAI, lift up the light of your countenance on us.
7 You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that
their corn and their wine increased.
8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for you, ADONAI, only
makes me dwell in safety.
1 To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of
David. Give ear to my words, ADONAI, consider my meditation.
2 Listen to the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for to you will I pray.
3 My voice shall you hear in the morning, ADONAI; in the morning
will I direct my prayer to you, and will look up.
4 For thou are not a God that has pleasure in wickedness:
neither shall evil dwell with you.
5 The foolish shall not stand in your sight: you hate all workers
of iniquity.
6 You shall destroy them that speak leasing: ADONAI will abhor
the bloody and deceitful man.
7 But as for me, I will come into your house in the
multitude of your mercy: and in your fear will I worship toward
your holy temple.
8 Lead me, ADONAI, in your righteousness because of my enemies;
make your way straight before my face.
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward
part is very wickedness; their throat is an open
sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
10 Destroy them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels;
cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have
rebelled against you.
11 But let all those that put their trust in you rejoice: let them
ever shout for joy, because you defend them: let them also that
love your name be joyful in you.
12 For you, ADONAI, wilt bless the righteous; with favor will thou
compass him as with a shield.
1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A
Psalm of David. ADONAI, rebuke me not in your anger, neither
chasten me in your hot displeasure.
2 Have mercy upon me, ADONAI; for I am weak: ADONAI, heal
me; for my bones are vexed.
3 My soul is also sore vexed: but you, ADONAI, how long?
4 Return, ADONAI, deliver my soul: oh save me for your mercies’
sake.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of you: in the grave
who shall give you thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim;
I water my couch with my tears.
7 My eye is consumed because of grief; it waxes old because of
all my enemies.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; for ADONAI has
heard the voice of my weeping.
9 ADONAI has heard my supplication; ADONAI will receive my
prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and
be ashamed suddenly.
1 Shiggaion of David, which he sang to ADONAI,
concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. ADONAI my God, in
you I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and
deliver me:
2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces,
while there is none to deliver.
3 ADONAI my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my
hands;
4 If I have rewarded evil to him that was at peace with me; (yes,
I have delivered him that without cause is my enemy:)
5 Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yes, let him
tread down my life on the earth, and lay my honor in the dust.
Selah.
6 Arise, ADONAI, in your anger, lift up yourself because of the
rage of my enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that
you have commanded.
7 So shall the congregation of the people compass you about: for
their sakes therefore return you on high.
8 ADONAI shall judge the people: judge me, ADONAI, according to
my righteousness, and according to my integrity that is in
me.
9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish
the just: for the righteous God tries the hearts and reins.
10 My defense is of God, which saves the upright in
heart.
11 God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked
every day.
12 If he does not turn, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow,
and made it ready.
13 He has also prepared for him the instruments of death; he
ordains his arrows against the persecutors.
14 Look, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived
mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
15 He made a pit, and dug it, and has fallen into the ditch which
he made.
16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent
dealing shall come down on his own pate.
17 I will praise ADONAI according to his righteousness: and will
sing praise to the name of ADONAI most high.
1 To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of
David. ADONAI our Lord, how excellent is your name in
all the earth! who has set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings have you ordained
strength because of your enemies, that you might still the enemy
and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon
and the stars, which you have ordained;
4 What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man,
that you visit him?
5 For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and have
crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands; you
have put all things under his feet:
7 All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field;
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever
passes through the paths of the seas.
9 ADONAI our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the
earth!
1 To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of
David. I will praise you, ADONAI, with my whole heart;
I will show all your marvellous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you: I will sing praise to your
name, O you most High.
3 When my enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at
your presence.
4 For you have maintained my right and my cause; you sat in
the throne judging right.
5 You have rebuked the heathen, you have destroyed the wicked, you
have put out their name for ever and ever.
6 O you enemy, destructions have come to a perpetual end: and you
have destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.
7 But ADONAI shall endure for ever: he has prepared his throne
for judgment.
8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister
judgment to the people in uprightness.
9 ADONAI also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in
times of trouble.
10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in you: for
you, ADONAI, have not forsaken them that seek you.
11 Sing praises to ADONAI, which dwells in Zion: declare
among the people his doings.
12 When he makes inquisition for blood, he remembers them: he
forgets not the cry of the humble.
13 Have mercy on me, ADONAI; consider my trouble which I
suffer of them that hate me, you that lift me up from the
gates of death:
14 That I may show all your praise in the gates of the
daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in your salvation.
15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in
the net which they hid is their own foot taken.
16 ADONAI is known by the judgment which he executes: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion.
Selah.
17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations
that forget God.
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of
the poor shall not perish for ever.
19 Arise, ADONAI; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in
your sight.
20 Put them in fear, ADONAI: that the nations may know
themselves to be but men. Selah.
